Happy Food Day Canada!

Every summer, on the first Saturday of August, Canadians from coast to coast to coast come together to celebrate something truly delicious, Food Day Canada! (1) This unique, homegrown celebration is all about honouring Canadian-grown and -raised food, the farmers, fishers, and artisans who produce it, and the chefs and home cooks who bring it to life on our plates.

Food Day Canada began as a response to support Canadian agriculture and has grown into a joyful, nation-wide event that invites all of us to shop Canadian, cook Canadian, and dine Canadian. It’s a chance to recognize the incredible richness, diversity, and quality of food that’s grown, raised, and prepared right here at home.

Whether you’re firing up the barbecue, gathering for a lakeside picnic, sitting down for a family meal, or dining out on a patio, there’s no wrong way to take part. From prairie grains to wild-caught seafood, artisanal cheeses to orchard fruits, this day is a delicious reminder of how abundant and special our land really is.
